WCW - Your Favorite Phrase Or Quote
Words give us the power to think. And the more words we know, the better our capacity to think and to reason. Words are a big deal. I love Ursula K. Le Guin's book A Wizard of EarthSea and her emphasis on the meaning of a true name or word and the power that is granted by knowledge of a single true word.
I love quotes and phrases. They provide a foundation upon which to build a rationale. A philosophy. A life.
I am re-reading Madeline L'Engle's classic reflections on Faith & Art titled Walking On Water in preparation for an artist retreat I am leading in Clearwater, Florida. While reading I was gripped by a phrase and cannot escape it. The phrase: A reasonable and seductive temptation. Even though it has been over a week since my face-off with these five words, they still have not loosed me. A reasonable and seductive temptation.
Bebo Norman talking at an annual conference for artists I lead called cre:ate two years ago used the phrase I am a clumsy believer. Two years and that phrase has not released me. I am a clumsy believer.
What about you? What is your favorite phrase or quote? What series of words has not released you?
