Suzanne Phifer-Pavitt of Napa's Award-Winning Phifer-Pavitt "Date Night" Cabernet Will Personally Lead A Tasting Oct.1 In Franklin, TN To Benefit "Kalein Center For Creative Studies"

Suzanne's 2006 Date Night Cabernet garnered a lofty 93 from Wine Spectator. Here is what Wine Spectator magazine says.

PHIFER PAVITT Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Date Night 2006 Score: 93 | $75

Well-crafted, tight and structured, with a complex blend of currant, boysenberry, black cherry and plum fruit framed by chewy, integrated tannins. Ends with a loamy earth edge. Drink now through 2017. 275 cases made. Phifer Pavitt Date Night is the best Pope Valley Cabernet I've tried (although the label doesn't say Pope Valley) Phifer Pavitt's bottling comes from Pope Valley, which is legally part of Napa, but is separated from the valley by Howell Mountain. This is the second exciting vintage from this producer, and I'm sure that once people realize how good Pope Valley wines can be, you'll start to see and hear more references to the Pope Valley-Napa Valley appellation, as well as more producers seeking its grapes. (A petition for a Pope Valley AVA, or American Viticultural Area, is in the works.) The wines are rich and fleshy, with gobs of fruit and great depth, but not as heavy as some Cabernets from the valley floor. —J.L.

The tasting will be at the home of Dr. David & Rhonda Kemp and conducted poolside if weather permits. It will take place Thursday evening, Oct. 1 at 7pm. Suzanne will be flying in from her Napa Valley home and personally conducting the tasting. Phifer-Pavitt has graciously donated the wine and her expenses, so all monies go directly to our charity Kalein scholarship fund. We will do a comparative tasting of the 2006 (93 rating W.S.)and the rare and sold-out 2005 (94 rating W.S.) "Date Night" vintages. We will also taste the extraordinary Olabisi Chardonnay from Phifer-Pavitt award-winning winemaker Ted Osborne and possibly a Syrah as well. Plenty of wine complemented by cheeses selected for ideal pairings will be on hand.

This movie is produced and directed by really great and talented friends, young and upcoming filmmaker David Kiern, executive producer (and my former co-worker) Ed Smith and (former recreate guest) Mitchell Galin. And it's for a really great cause. If you live in the Nashville area, don't miss it.

ABOUT THE FILM: In October of 2008, six American trekkers traveled to Nepal with the goal of reaching Everest Base Camp. After being miraculously bumped from a deadly plane crash in the Himalayas, the team began the 18,000 foot ascension, but not everyone would make it.

This high adventure documentary, filmed in some of the highest places on earth, tells the story of how their view of the world was challenged by what they experienced.

ABOUT THE EVENT: Matthew 28:19 says “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” For the citizens of metro-Nashville, the nations have come to our doorstep.

Nashville has recently received approximately 200 Nepali immigrants with the potential of many more on their way.These new Tennessee citizens have experienced, to no surprise, a culture shock and are faced with complexities and uncertainties regarding food, sustainable shelter, employment, education, transportation, communication, health, as well as social and spiritual needs.

Tickets for the premiere are $50.00 and the proceeds will go to the 28:19 Fund, benefiting Nepali Refugees.

Come Join Me Tomorrow & Drink A Tequila Shot To Benefit Autism at Sol On Main in Franklin, TN

Come join me at one of my all-time favorite restaurants Sol on Main where they hope to have more than 1,300 people slam a shot of tequila during the Mexican restaurant's Cinco de Mayo outdoor festival May 5. This would set a new world record.

My friend and Sol On Main manager Eric Finch says, "We are big fans of good tequila and decided hey, this could be fun."

If all goes according to plan, we will earn the "Largest Shot Slam" Guinness world record, overthrowing a June 9, 2007, event in which 1,300 people drank shots of corn schnapps in Nordhausen, Germany.

Festivities start at 3pm and Tequila Shots for the Guinness Book of Records will be served 15 minutes before the 8 p.m."Largest Shot Slam" attempt. Crowds will down their shots inside Sol as well as nearby downtown restaurant Red Pony, off Fourth Avenue, and in a parking lot behind the restaurant's building.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit nonprofit Visions Autism Center in Brentwood, Finch said.

Scotch Tasting For Kalein

My friend and single malt Scotch connoisseur, John Voelz, aka, JVO, will be traveling down from Jackson, Michigan to lead a tasting of some very fine varieties of Scotch. All proceeds will benefit Kalein, our non-profit Center for Creative Studies.

The tasting will take place at my home, La Maison des Rêves, in Franklin, Tennessee on May 9 at 7pm. The cost is $50. per person. Each participant will also receive very nice Scotch memorabilia and more. We will be tasting very exquisite Scotch and the evening is limited to the first 23 paid registrants.
